Perlis PAS to keep supporting Bersatu

KANGAR: Perlis PAS will continue supporting Bersatu in the state, despite both parties no longer having working relations in politics at the national level, says Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pic).

The state Perikatan Nasional chairman said the Perlis government is functioning as normal and would continue doing so until the coalition’s leadership decides on the matter.

“As we have been informed, PAS made several decisions on Monday, including terminating its political cooperation with Bersatu, and exploring a form of political understanding for electoral cooperation, unity and Muslim unity.

“However, in Perlis, the government is under Perikatan and the majority of seats are held by PAS. PAS supports Bersatu in Perlis.

“Until Perikatan makes any decision, the state government’s priority is the welfare of the people,” he said.

Shahidan said efforts to assist the people would continue despite changes in political relations at the national level.

“No matter what the political situation is, the people’s welfare will come first. All efforts to aid the rakyat will continue,” he said.

PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu following a meeting of the party’s central working committee Monday night.

The party said it would explore new forms of political understanding and electoral cooperation in the interest of Muslim unity ahead of the state elections and the 16th General Election.

PAS and Bersatu are the co-founders of Perikatan, which was formed in February 2020.
