SEREMBAN: PAS was among those that supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s appointment as prime minister, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic), refuting the former’s accusation that PAS is a “toxic influence” within Perikatan Nasional.
He said it was unfair for the Bersatu president to make such a remark, and reminded Muhyiddin of the role PAS played during his prime ministership.
“Let us not call others names. We must look back and remember how others had helped us.
“Without PAS and Umno, he (Muhyiddin) would never have become prime minister,” said the Parti Wawasan Negara president after a session with Perikatan’s candidate for Sikamat and Ampangan.
He pointed out that Perikatan does not belong to Bersatu, adding that its formation was supported by other parties.
Hamzah said that cooperation among parties in Perikatan must be viewed as efforts to build political strength.
Earlier, Muhyiddin was reported to have said that Perikatan had become “toxic” and had lost the appeal it once enjoyed under his leadership.
Bersatu-PAS relations have strained over the past months, due to several issues, including over the Perlis mentri besar position.
The party also claimed that the electoral understanding between Perikatan and Barisan Nasional was done without any discussion.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said Peri-katan would likely be prepared to continue its co-operation with Barisan if the political understanding proved successful in the Negri Sembilan election.
“I have been reading media reports suggesting that this political understanding is a positive development.
“If it succeeds, we make take it further.”
