SEREMBAN: Questioning the validity of the “unification of the ummah” concept, Pakatan Harapan has claimed that it has failed to translate into economic prosperity for states currently governed by PAS.
Pakatan election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) said if the concept worked, then residents in the PAS-led states of Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis should have way higher living standards or income levels with major global economic hubs like Tokyo, Dubai and Doha.
“All 32 elected reps in the Terengganu assembly are from Perikatan Nasional, and 44 of the 45 in Kelantan are from Perikatan and Barisan Nasional.
“Likewise, 33 of the 36 Kedah assembly members are from Perikatan, and Perlis has only one Opposition member.
“But the people from these states still go and look for job opportunities and comfortable lives in states like Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang,” he said.
Amirudin said Pakatan’s resolve was built upon the unity of the people.
This, he said, aligned with the principles of the Rukun Negara to build a prosperous, harmonious and stable future by developing a confident, visionary society.
Amirudin said the “unification of the ummah” narrative bandied about by PAS was merely a political slogan – one that had repeatedly failed to solve the people’s problems, let alone boost the economy.
He also cautioned Barisan Nasional to recognise what he described as Perikatan Nasional’s attempts to dominate it.
“Signs are already evident with the use of the term ‘Perikatan Barisan Nasional’,” he added.
