Khairy: Don’t blame others, reflect on poor Malay support

SEREMBAN: Rather than putting the blame on other parties, Pakatan Harapan should ask itself why the coalition failed to win the support of the Malays, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The former Umno youth chief said he had previously stated that the coalition had failed to manage Malay sensitivities well.

“They got angry and accused me of playing up racial issues.

“But I want to ask Pakatan to reflect and engage in a bit of self-examination as to why they are not popular among Malay voters,” he said when met during breakfast with Barisan Nasional’s Lenggeng candidate Datuk Mohd Asna Amin.

Khairy said based on a study on the performance of Pakatan candidates in the recent Johor election, it was found that they had secured less than 10% of Malay votes.

“Pakatan should ask itself before blaming others, and before claiming that I am playing up racial issues and so on,” he said.

Responding to this, state Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the electoral backgrounds for the Malay vote were different in Johor.

He said any mandate is ultimately given by the people.

“Let’s not compare Johor and Negri Sembilan voters as they can make their own choices.

“I am confident that we still have their support. I believe they will make the best decision,” he said when met after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Kampung Sawah Sunggala.
