GEORGE TOWN: There will be traffic disruption on the Penang Second Bridge (JKSB), officially known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, on Thursday (Sept 10).
In an official statement on Tuesday (Sept 8), JKSB announced that it will be conducting an Emergency Simulation Exercise on Thursday (Sept 10) from 10am to 2pm.
"This is part of ongoing efforts to test the level of preparedness, efficiency and coordination of relevant parties for emergency situations in the Second Bridge's operational area.
"The emergency simulation exercise will be conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority and its Northern Region counterpart and the police.
"The exercise aims to test the readiness of the teams, assess the effectiveness of the Standard Operating Procedures and strengthen coordination between JKSB and the security and rescue agencies to ensure that our Emergency Response Team remains at an optimal level of preparedness in dealing with any emergency situation along the bridge," it said.
It stated that the route from Batu Kawan to Batu Maung will remain open to traffic during the exercise.
Traffic is, however, expected to move slowly as motorists approach and pass through the exercise area.
"Road users may see security and rescue personnel, emergency vehicles and simulated activities being carried out in the area.
"The public is advised to remain calm and follow the instructions of personnel throughout the simulation exercise.
"Motorists are advised to follow traffic signs, reduce their speed when approaching and passing through the exercise area, give way to emergency vehicles and plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and express our appreciation for the attention, patience and cooperation of all highway users," it said.
It said that in connection with the exercise, temporary traffic disruptions are likely to occur on the involved routes throughout the exercise.
In the event of an emergency or if assistance is required, please contact the JKSB Hotline at 1-300-30-2828.
