SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional has no objection to any individual, including Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, campaigning in the Negri Sembilan state election.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Muhammad Sanusi's presence to help with the campaign would depend on his own availability, reported Sinar Harian.
"But we have no objection to anyone coming to campaign and I believe it depends on Sanusi whether he can come again after this," he said after launching the Perikatan Negri Sembilan manifesto here on Saturday (July 25).
He was commenting on Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's suggestion that Muhammad Sanusi should no longer come to Negri Sembilan to campaign.
This comes after Muhammad Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional election director, had allegedly said during a ceramah that “Tanah Melayu” was the only homeland for the Malays, unlike other ethnic groups.
Asked whether Muhammad Sanusi's manner of speaking could affect support from non-Malay voters, Ahmad Samsuri said the Kedah Menteri Besar had given an explanation.
"I think we need to be clear about what he actually said and he will sue any party that distorts the facts of what he said," he said.
Meanwhile, asked to comment on a claim by Parti Wawasan Negara's Negri Sembilan state election director Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, that Bersatu would be removed from Perikatan, Ahmad Samsuri said it was not within his power as Perikatan chairman to decide, adding that such matters were decided by consensus within Perikatan.
