SUVs remain eligible for e-hailing registration, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry clarified there is no change in policy on the eligibility of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for e-hailing services.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said SUVs remain eligible for e-hailing registration if they meet technical requirements and have seating for four to eleven passengers.

“The ministry emphasises there has been no change in policy regarding eligible vehicle types for e-hailing services,” he said on Tuesday (Oct 7).

Loke dismissed claims that the Land Public Transport Agency had restricted the use of SUVs for e-hailing.

He said no such order or statement was issued by the agency.

“The ministry understands concerns from e-hailing drivers and operators,” he said.

He said vehicle registrations would continue as usual under existing rules and guidelines.
