Nilai school tragedy: JKR finds no defect in manhole cover, sewage system in good condition


SEREMBAN: An inspection at the site of the tragic incident where a student died after falling into an uncovered sewage pit in Lenggeng, Nilai found that the Small Sewage Treatment System (SSTS) is in good condition.

In a statement on Monday (Sept 29), the Public Works Department (JKR) said that they were also informed by the police that the manhole cover taken for investigation was in good condition and did not have any defects.

"JKR takes the incident seriously and dispatched a team to the site at 5.30pm the same day to assess the situation and conduct a preliminary investigation.

"JKR is deeply saddened by the incident which claimed the life of a nine-year-old child," it said.

Meanwhile, JKR also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any complaints or damage to public assets that may pose a danger.

On Saturday (Sept 27), Year Three pupil Abdul Fattah Khairol Rizal died after falling into an uncovered manhole at the school. – Bernama
