Education Ministry orders probe into nine-year-old's death in sewerage pit


SEREMBAN: The Education Ministry has ordered the Negri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS) to investigate the death of a nine-year-old pupil who had fallen into a sewerage pit at a school in Lenggeng, Nilai.

Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said the ministry reminded school administrators, district education offices and state education departments to ensure that school facilities are safe.

"The ministry expresses its condolences to the family of the student who died after falling into a sewerage pit at a school in Negri Sembilan, as reported by the media on Saturday (Sept 27).

"This incident was extremely tragic. The state Education Department was ordered to investigate the incident immediately, and strict action would be taken over any non-compliance with the standard operating procedures," he said.

He added that the ministry prioritised the safety and well-being of everyone in educational institutions.

The media reported that a nine-year-old boy died after falling into a sewerage pit at a school in Lenggeng.

Negri Sembilan police chief Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the Nilai district police headquarters received a report about the incident at 11am Saturday. – Bernama
