Dog in viral video died of severe head injuries, says Perak DVS

IPOH: The dog seen being brutally beaten in a viral video died from severe head injuries, says the Perak Veterinary Services Department (DVS).

In a statement on Monday (Sept 29), DVS said the case came to light after the video went viral the previous day.

DVS said its animal welfare and enforcement officers also visited the house in Taman Arkid on Monday.

"No one was home, but the team managed to contact the man’s sister.

"She confirmed that the incident occurred on Sept 19 and that the dog died a few days later.

"A police report was also lodged on the same day," the statement read.

DVS officers also checked with the veterinary clinic where the dog had been taken.

"The veterinarian confirmed that the dog was unconscious and in a critical state when brought in, with severe head injuries.

“Due to its poor prognosis, only supportive treatment could be administered," DVS said, adding that police are investigating.

Police have arrested the 23-year-old man.

Ipoh OCPD ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad had said earlier in the day that a police report on the incident was lodged at the Menglembu police station on Sept 19.

"The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 29(1)(A) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, involving criminal intimidation among family members and the alleged killing of a dog by the suspect.

"The suspect has been arrested and is currently on police bail pending completion of the investigation," he added.
