SAFM urges probe into brutal killing of pet dog in Ipoh


PETALING JAYA: The Stray Animal Foundation Malaysia (SAFM) has called for an immediate investigation into a case of animal cruelty in Ipoh, where a pet dog was allegedly beaten to death by its owner’s child.

SAFM said it condemned the act in the strongest terms, describing it as deeply disturbing and reflective of wider social risks.

“In the viral video, the suspect’s mother can be seen trying to stop the act, but the person refused to cease beating the helpless animal.

“Such cruel behaviour is alarming because individuals capable of inflicting this level of violence on animals may also pose a danger to society,” the association said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 28).

The group urged witnesses to lodge a police report and notify the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) immediately.

It said the case should be investigated under Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries penalties of a fine between RM20,000 and RM100,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.

“We call on DVS to take swift and firm action against the perpetrator to ensure justice is served and to send a clear message that cruelty towards animals will not be tolerated in Malaysia,” SAFM said.
