Cops nab three men over viral second link race

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men, believed to be linked to a viral video showing an illegal racing activity at the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link in Johor, have been detained.

It is learnt that the racers were vying to win a RM15,000 prize for partaking in the illegal race.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the three men, aged between 20 and 40, were arrested yesterday following an operation by the intelligence and operations unit.

“During the operation, all three suspects are believed to have attempted to flee but were successfully detained,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said one of the suspects is believed to have been involved as a motorcycle racer, while the other two were spectators.

He said all three suspects had been taken to the traffic police station in Kulai, Johor, for further investigations.

“The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) and Section 81(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said police would continue to take stern action against those involved in illegal racing activities that could endanger the safety of other road users.
