Ipoh man nabbed for killing dog with iron rod

IPOH: Police have arrested a man after a video showing him beating a dog to death with an iron rod in Taman Arkid went viral.

The one-minute 31-second clip was uploaded to Instagram by the Malaysian Animal Organisation (animal.org.my), sparking widespread outrage.

Ipoh OCPD ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a police report on the incident was made at the Menglembu police station on Sept 19.

"The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 29(1)(A) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, involving criminal intimidation among family members and the killing of a dog by the suspect, 23.

"The suspect has been arrested and is currently on police bail pending completion of the investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 29).

ACP Abang Zainal advised the public not to circulate the video to avoid causing distress.

"Any information related to misconduct or cruelty towards animals should be reported directly to the police or the Veterinary Services Department for further action.

"The Ipoh police take such matters seriously and will work closely with the relevant agencies," he added.
