Policeman charged with unauthorised firearm discharge in Seremban


SEREMBAN: A 37-year-old policeman claimed trial at the Magistrates’ Court to a charge of discharging his firearm without a valid reason.

Mohd Izzat Fitri Mohd Hashim pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.

He was charged with the unauthorised discharge of a Tara Aerospace TM-9C pistol without a valid reason.

The offence was allegedly committed around 2.30am on September 8 near a stall in Bandar Prima Senawang.

Mohd Izzat was charged under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960, punishable under Section 43 of the same legislation.

Offenders face up to one year in jail, a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi offered bail of RM7,000 with one surety pending the next mention.

However, the defence pleaded for a lower amount as he earns only RM1,700 a month and supports his parents.

The accused was also cooperative with the police investigating the case and is not a flight risk.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah set bail at RM2,500 and fixed February 25 for the next mention.
