SHAH ALAM: A 38-year-old man suffered severe injuries to his left hand after he was allegedly slashed with a machete during a fight involving a group of men in Sri Muda.
The incident occurred at about 11am on Thursday (Aug 13) near a petrol station along Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Batu 8, Sri Muda.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Sarudin Samah said police received a report from the victim, who is currently receiving medical treatment at Klang Hospital.
“We have opened an investigation paper under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed, Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon, and Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an object resembling a firearm,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 14).
He noted that those convicted under Section 148 of the Penal Code face up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Under Section 326, offenders face up to 20 years in prison, along with a fine or whipping.
Meanwhile, convictions under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 carry a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
