SEREMBAN: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) auctioned 114 vehicles forfeited from their owners for various offences.
State JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said the department received RM120,800 from the exercise, which attracted 68 bidders.
Of the 114 vehicles, three were unroadworthy and were disposed of as scrap.
“The highest bid we received was RM6,700 for a lorry sold as scrap,” he said in a statement.
Hanif Yusabra said key offences leading to confiscation include expired motor vehicle licences and vehicles without valid insurance.
“These two offences not only break the law but also pose a high risk to the safety of drivers, passengers and other road users in an accident,” he said.
He said that as of September 23 this year, JPJ had confiscated 469 vehicles for various offences.
These include 165 motorcycles, 121 cars and 146 commercial vehicles.
Hanif Yusabra said the public auction is part of JPJ’s ongoing efforts to dispose of seized vehicles transparently and according to prescribed procedures.
