Over 6,000 luxury cars linked to RM35mil in unpaid road tax

PUTRAJAYA: Over 6,000 luxury cars are linked to more than RM35mil in unpaid road tax, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Loke said this involves 6,360 vehicles, comprising 345 Rolls-Royces, 372 Lamborghinis, 660 Bentleys, 675 Ferraris and 4,308 Porsches.

“Just these five brands exceeded RM35mil in outstanding road tax payments. We have all the owners’ details, types of vehicles and more,” said Loke.

“These are individuals who are financially capable of paying, as their cars also cost millions. Please give your cooperation and renew your road taxes,” he added at a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters on Wednesday (Sept 24).

He said these vehicles are still active in the ministry’s database and added that there are also new vehicles on the list.

Loke then added that the cost of road tax can go up to RM30,000 depending on the vehicle’s cubic capacity and said that motorists commonly claim they were forgetful during enforcement operations.

“There have also been those who seemed to ‘forget’ even though three years had lapsed,” he said.

Loke then added that “drastic action” will be taken against those who fail to renew their road tax, saying that the Road Transport Department will hold continuous operations.
