4.5 metre king cobra captured in Teluk Kumbar


BALIK PULAU: A 4.5 metre long king cobra was caught at Jalan Sungai Batu in Teluk Kumbar on Wednesday (Sept 24).

Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Lt Muhamad Fitri Kamis said the district APM received a distress call from villagers regarding the snake at 5.20pm and arrived about 15 minutes later.

"The 20kg snake was found hiding beneath an old cabinet outside a house surrounded by piles of discarded furniture," he said.

He said the discovery of snakes has drawn the attention of villagers and onlookers, making the capture operation more challenging.

"The team took about 20 minutes to subdue the snake using special equipment," he added.

He said the snake that was brought to the APM district office before being handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).
