17 appointed judicial commissioners, including AGC's former deputy head of research


PUTRAJAYA: Seventeen individuals, including a former deputy head of research division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), were appointed as High Court Judicial Commissioners (JC) effective on Tuesday (July 14).

The newly appointed JCs are Norhayati Ahmad, 60; Zaman Mohd Noor, 57; Elesabet Paya Wan, 55; Azhar Othman, 54;  Helina Sulaiman, 55; Tengku Amir Zaki Tengku Abdul Rahman, 57; Suraiya Mustafa Kamal, 51; Nor Azizah Mohamad, 55; Ku Hayati Ku Haron, 52; Tan Swee Cheng, 54; Chan Kheng Hoe, 54; Ariff Azami Hussein, 50; Marianne Antoinette Ghani, 55; Wan Azliana Wan Adnan, 50; Mohamad Nor Azam Rashid Zainol Rashid, 55; Kalwant Singh Sujan Singh, 60; and Kumar Thangaraju, 57.

They received their instruments of appointment from Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh at a ceremony held in the Palace of Justice on Tuesday.

All of them took their oaths of office and allegiance before Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah.

Among those appointed are individuals with extensive experience in the judiciary, in the AGC, legal profession, and various legal-related bodies.

Norhayati, who is from Kuala Lumpur, previously served as deputy head of the Research Division at the AGC, while Zaman was a Sessions Court judge in Kuala Lumpur.

Elesabet was former director of the Melaka State Court, while Azhar served as director of the Johor State Court. Meanwhile,Tengku Amir Zaki was previously chairman of the Johor Branch of the Industrial Court, while Suraiya served as deputy chairperson of the Customs Appeal Tribunal.

Nor Azizah was head of the Sexual Crimes and Domestic Violence Unit under the Prosecution Division of the AGC, while Ku Hayati was previously the director of the Negeri Sembilan State Prosecution Office.

Marianne was a member of the Disciplinary Board of Advocates and Solicitors of Sabah, while Wan Azliana was previously a partner in a law firm and later served as a member of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Tribunal, under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

Ariff Azami, Mohamad Nor Azam, Kalwant Singh, Kumar, Tan Swee Cheng, and Chan Kheng Hoe were previously practising lawyers.

Also present at the ceremony were Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi, and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.- Bernama
