IPOH: Razman Zakaria has stepped down as Perak PAS commissioner after 12 years, marking the end of a tenure that saw the party go through four distinct political phases.
Bagan Serai MP Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad will take his place.
In a statement on Wednesday (Sept 17), Razman said his appointment in 2013 had been both an honour and a heavy responsibility, as the party faced several turning points at the state and national levels.
The Gunung Semanggol assemblyman described the first phase as a difficult period following the formation of Amanah, which saw PAS lose some members and leaders.
“The second phase was during the 14th General Election (2018), when PAS contested on its own without joining any major coalition," he said.
He said the third phase was marked by the formation of Muafakat Nasional with Umno, which eventually led to PAS being part of the Perak government following the fall of Pakatan Harapan in 2020.
“The fourth phase came during GE15 in 2022, when PAS joined Perikatan Nasional.
“With stronger consensus and cooperation, Perak PAS went on to win 17 seats in the state assembly and became part of the political mainstream,” he added.
Razman expressed his gratitude to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for entrusting him with the role, and to party members for their support and sacrifices over the years.
He also congratulated Idris on his appointment.
Razman, who has been appointed as a member of the PAS central committee, said he would continue to serve the party and the Islamic struggle in his new role.
