Hadi Awang's son-in-law detained over Kg Sg Baru fracas

KUALA LUMPUR: The son-in-law of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has been arrested by police following investigations of a clash with the authorities during last week's eviction operation in Kampung Sungai Baru here.

When contacted, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed that a PAS division chief was arrested earlier on Monday (Sept 15).

"Investigations are being conducted under Sections 186, 353 and 324 of the Penal Code," he said.

Section 186 deals with obstructing a public servant from discharging their duties; Section 353 covers the use of criminal force in said obstruction; while Section 324 is for voluntarily causing hurt through dangerous weapons or means.

The eviction last week came after years of dispute over a redevelopment project first proposed in 2016 to replace the village’s PKNS flats and terrace houses with a high-rise mixed development.

While most flat dwellers agreed to the plan, several terrace house owners opposed it, causing delays.

The developer eventually invoked the Land Acquisition Act 1960 to acquire the land.

In July, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said redevelopment work was expected to begin in the first quarter of next year, with the project’s layout and building plans already approved and awaiting technical clearances from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and other agencies.

During the eviction on Thursday (Sept 11), ACP Sulizmie suffered a head injury after a rock was thrown at him.
