Heavy traffic expected over holiday weekend

PETALING JAYA: Heavy traffic in and out of the city has been reported following the long weekend for Malaysia Day.

As of press time, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said on their official X page that slow movements due to congestion have been reported from the MRR2 to the Gombak Toll Plaza.

The same has also been reported from the toll plaza to Bukit Tinggi and from the Karak intersection towards the Karak Toll Plaza.

A 4km road accident involving a lorry has also been reported along KM259 of the North–South Expressway (NSE).

Another road accident occurred along the Pagoh-Yong Peng stretch of the NSE that led to a 10km stretch of bumper to bumper traffic.

Earlier, Plus Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) said that it was anticipating up to 2.2 million vehicles per day across its highway network on the peak travel days of Sept 12, Sept 13, Sept 19 and Sept 20, due to the school holidays and Malaysia Day.

In a statement on Thursday, PLUS advised users of the PLUS Expressway and the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) to plan their journeys by consulting the digital travel schedule, MyPLUS-TTA on the PLUS app.

“With recent enhancements, the MyPLUS-TTA can now be accessed on selected peak days. It is designed to help highway users plan their journeys on the PLUS and LPT2 expressways more efficiently during these peak periods outside of the festive season.

“This will also help ensure smoother traffic flow and provide a more comfortable travel experience,” according to the statement.
