A 92-YEAR-OLD obstetrician, who is still practising medicine, has delivered more than 200,000 babies throughout her career, Makkal Osai reported.

Dr Suri Srimathi began her work in gynecology in 1959 and has not stopped since.

The veteran doctor from Hyderabad, the capital city of India’s southern state of Telangana, specialises in maternal and high-risk fetal healthcare.

Dr Suri still attends to patients and carries out operations regularly.

These days, she receives patients at her home clinic which she founded in 1999 because she “needed to look after the pregnant women in my locality”, she was quoted as saying.

Dr Suri went into private practice after retiring from a 35-year illustrious career in prestigious public institutions such as the Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College and Niloufer Hospital.

Her contributions to Telangana have gained her new respect online after a profile on her life and career was published recently.
