KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly two dozen police reports have been submitted just a week after Bukit Aman launched a project enabling the public to file online complaints regarding minor accidents.
“So far, in the first week of its implementation, we have already received 22 reports lodged through the PDRM e-reporting platform,” said Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri (pic).
He said the pilot project, which has been conducted along the North-South Expressway since Sept 1, has seen encouraging responses from the public.
“We have received positive feedback about it,” he said when contacted yesterday.
The e-reporting system is meant for private vehicle users involved in minor cases that do not result in injuries, damage to other vehicles or harm to public property.
“For example, if a driver loses control of his vehicle and veers off the road, resulting in damage to his car, he can submit a report using the system.
“But if the driver is hurt or other vehicles are involved, reports can’t be filed. This restriction also applies to incidents that cause damage to public structures, such as guardrails or signboards.
“When that happens, those involved must lodge a report at the nearest police station,” he added.
Information about the pilot programme, including reporting procedures, is available at ereporting.rmp.gov.my.
Comm Mohd Yusri noted that Bukit Aman will assess the public’s response to the initiative.
He explained that the department, in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia, realised the initiative after three years of planning and development.
“This provides motorists with an alternative to physically reporting accidents at nearby police stations,” he said.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the digital-based initiative merges policing expertise with national financial oversight, particularly in handling insurance claims.
“It is expected to improve investigation efficiency, streamline enforcement and expand public access to police services online in a user-friendly manner,” he said.
Comm Mohd Yusri also said the initiative as a whole-of-nation approach would benefit the public by offering a simpler method to report minor accidents while aligning with Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda.
The pilot project also involves the Transport Ministry, the Road Transport Department and the National Financial Crime Centre.
Strong support has been extended by the insurance and takaful industry, led by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Takaful Association, alongside PLUS Malaysia Bhd as the highway concessionaire.
