KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22 reports on minor accidents have been lodged via the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) electronic reporting system in its first week.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the pilot project conducted along the North-South Expressway since Sept 1 has seen encouraging response from the public.
"So far, in the first week of its implementation, we received 22 reports through the PDRM e-Reporting platform.
"We have received positive feedback towards this pilot project," he said when contacted on Friday (Sept 12).
He reminded the public that lodging a report via the system is only applicable for minor accidents that do not result in injuries, damage to other vehicles, or damage to public property.
“For example, if an accident occurs where the driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved off the road, causing damage to (their) own vehicle, the driver can lodge a report via the system.
"However, one cannot lodge a report through the system if the accident involved injuries to the driver or involved other vehicles.
"The same applies if an accident caused damage to public structures such as guardrails or signboards.
"When that happens, those involved must lodge a report at the nearest police station," he added.
It was reported that Bukit Aman has rolled out a pilot project for lodging online reports involving minor accidents.
Comm Yusri said the initiative came to fruition after three years of planning and development by the department, with the cooperation of Bank Negara.
“It provides motorists with an alternative to physically reporting accidents at police stations,” he said.
Comm Yusri said the initiative merges policing expertise with national financial oversight, particularly in handling insurance claims.
“It is expected to improve investigation efficiency, streamline enforcement and expand public access to police services online in a user-friendly manner,” he said.
The initiative, as a whole-of-nation approach, would benefit the public by offering a simpler method to report minor accidents while aligning with Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda, he added.
The pilot project also involves the Transport Ministry, the Road Transport Department and the National Financial Crime Centre.
Support has also been extended by the insurance and takaful industry, led by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Takaful Association, alongside PLUS Malaysia Berhad as the highway concessionaire.
