A WILD leopard caused a rude awakening for the residents of a city neighbourhood in Gombak after it was found roaming a housing area in the wee hours on Sept 8, reported Harian Metro.

Shocked residents of Taman Sri Gombak Heights spotted the big cat resting calmly on the roof of a small shed within the compound of a home at about 1am before calling the authorities.

The Kuala Lumpur Civil Defence Force was swiftly dispatched to the scene where they identified the animal as an adult clouded leopard.

“Upon arrival, our personnel saw the leopard lying on the shed roof beside the perimeter wall.

“It took nearly 20 minutes to capture the animal using a net,” an APM spokesperson said.

The wild cat was handed over to the Kuala Lumpur Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

Clouded leopards are a fully protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716) and are not allowed to be kept as pets.
