Bersatu: Muhyiddin is our PM pick for next GE

SHAH ALAM: Bersatu wings have nominated their president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister if Perikatan Nasional wins the general election.

This was announced by Hilman Idham, chief of youth wing Armada, and women’s wing Srikandi chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin during their respective assemblies here yesterday.

“We will win (the next general election) under the leadership of Muhyiddin as our prime minister candidate, representing Bersatu,” said Hilman in his speech at the meeting held at Ideal Convention Centre yesterday.

At the Srikandi wing’s annual general assembly, Mas Ermieyati, who is Masjid Tanah MP, said that the party has full confidence in Muhyiddin’s leadership.

“Under the leadership of Muhyiddin and his team, we believe that Malaysia will return to a country that is administered with integrity based on the struggle for religion, race and country,” she added.

Pagoh MP Muhyiddin was the eighth prime minister when Perikatan Nasional took over Putrajaya in 2020.

However, he stepped down in 2021 after losing parliamentary support.

Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who opened the AGMs of both wings, said the party should choose the right leaders.

“Our struggle begins with trust. Every position, every responsibility, and every decision is not for personal gain, but a trust carried for the benefit of the ummah (community).

“We have governed before. Firstly, under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and then under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. These leaders have proven we can govern the nation.

“The people can clearly compare our capabilities with the current government,” he said in his speech.

Hamzah criticised the unity government for not keeping the promises it made during the last general election.

He added that the unity government had not been effective in dealing with issues, such as the high cost of living.

“Corruption cases are selectively ignored. Public trust has been broken,” he added.

Hamzah also advised Bersatu members against bringing harmful practices into the party.

“There is no place here for poison pen letters or backstabbing. This (Bersatu) is a big family.

“This is a party that upholds the voice of the people, that will fight for the future in the name of religion, race and country.

“If the wrong leaders are chosen, everything that has been built with blood, sweat and tears to uphold the dignity of our people will be destroyed,” he added.

He said Bersatu members are ready to stand up against tyranny.

“There are times that we must be bold, daring to speak the truth. We must rebuild the people’s trust and confidence in us,” said Hamzah.
