Bersatu AGM confirms Muhyiddin as PM candidate

SHAH ALAM: Bersatu delegates have unanimously agreed that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be their Prime Minister-in-waiting if Perikatan Nasional wins Putrajaya at the next general election.

This decision was made at Bersatu's eighth annual general assembly after debates on Muhyiddin's keynote address held today  (Sept 7).

More than 2,000 party delegates and observers from across the country shouted in unison when permanent chairman Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah asked if they supported the resolution for Muhyiddin to be the next Prime Minister.

Pagoh MP Muhyiddin, who is also the Bersatu founder, was Malaysia's eighth Prime Minister in 2020 before stepping down in 2021 after losing Parliamentary support.

Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, in his closing speech, praised delegates for addressing the "elephant in the room".

"I applaud all the delegates for having the courage to name Muhyiddin as the next Prime Minister if we win Putrajaya. All of us should be preparing for the next general election, but some still cannot move on from last year's party polls,” he said.

“I call upon those who do not agree with the results to move on and let it go.

Let us focus and be the government first," added Tun Faisal.

On Saturday (Sept 7), chaos erupted among delegates during Muhyiddin's keynote address when he mentioned that some were collecting signatures to oust him.
