Bersatu Arau division leadership, wings quit party


ARAU: After Padang Besar and Kangar, the Bersatu Arau division leadership, along with most of its committee members and party wings, announced their resignations and immediate departure from the party on Thursday night (Sept 10).

Those involved included Arau Bersatu deputy chief Azrul Azhar Abd Ghani; vice-chief Sombun Crem; Srikandi (Women's) chief Norazida Mohd Azmi and all Srikandi committee members; Srikandi Muda (Women's Youth) chief Zureen Zainon and all Srikandi Muda committee members; and the entire Armada division committee.

In addition, 10 of the division's 26 branch chiefs also announced that they were taking similar action.

The group's representative, Roshita Buyong, who is also a Bersatu Arau committee member, told a press conference that the decision was made following the central leadership's move to appoint Bersatu Padang Besar division chief Izizam Ibrahim as the Bersatu Perlis Leadership Council chairman without consulting the state leadership and grassroots members.

On Wednesday (Sept 9), Kangar Bersatu division deputy chief Faisol Rahman, together with the division committee and 90 of its 99 branch chiefs, announced that they were leaving the party with immediate effect.

Also announcing their departure were the division's Armada, Srikandi and Srikandi Muda leadership lines, including Armada Kangar deputy chief Mohd Firdaus Ismail and all Armada committee members.

On Tuesday (Sept 8), the Bersatu Padang Besar division, along with 14 of its 24 branch leaders, announced their resignations and immediate departure from the party.

Besides the Padang Besar division deputy chief Ramzi Md Udi, others include its vice-chief Ramli Aripin, acting Srikandi (Women's) chief Fazuwin Razak, Srikandi Muda (Women's Youth) chief Nurul Hafiza Ramli, as well as committee members Zulkefli Hassan and Nazri Khamis. – Bernama
