Armada files police report over commotion at Bersatu AGM

PETALING JAYA: A police report has been lodged by the youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Armada, against several individuals who caused a commotion during the opening night of the party’s Annual General Assembly.

Its Information chief, Harris Idaham Rashid, said the report was filed by the Head of Security, who is also the Deputy commander of Bersatu Armada’s brigade, Afiq Nardin, at around midnight on Sunday (Sept 7) at the Taman Sri Muda Police Station.

The wing also submitted a disciplinary report to Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board at 1.30am the same day for further action.

He clarified that several individuals involved in the incident were not members of Armada.

“In the disciplinary report, we expressed our dissatisfaction, especially as the incident was embarrassing and happened in front of the public.

“The Bersatu Disciplinary Board and the police are investigating the matter and interviewing those involved.

"We are not sure whether it was pre-planned or happened spontaneously, but before the programme (this morning) started, all of them apologised and were allowed to enter the debate hall. Although an apology was made, action will still be taken,” he said at a press conference during the assembly at the Ideal Convention Centre on Sunday.

Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that scuffles and shoving erupted in the middle section of the hall during the Bersatu AGM, believed to involve discontented party members, as its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was delivering his policy speech.

Harris Idaham said that there would be no issue if freedom of expression were the guiding principle, but it must be exercised with courtesy and decorum, especially during an official event.

“This AGM is a platform for us to hear debates from delegates of every state who bring forth policies and issues they deem important, not for people to be shouting from chairs.

"That is something we do not agree with. The presence of Armada Bersatu, particularly the brigade team at the AGM, is to maintain order and uphold our stance that while freedom of expression is encouraged, it must be conducted in a proper manner,” he said.

Commenting on rumours of a statutory declaration (SD) to oust Muhyiddin as president, Harris Idaham said such a move was unlikely, as the former prime minister had been elected to serve until the end of his term in 2027.

The Bersatu Balik Pulau Division Chief stressed that there is no way to remove Muhyiddin from his position before the term ends.

“If SDs are collected as the rumours claimed recently, where would those SDs be submitted, and who would accept them?

“Therefore, Armada Bersatu stands firm with the party election results of 2024, in which the elected leaders will hold their positions until 2027, or longer if applicable,” he added.
