KUALA LUMPUR: Heaven does not belong to any political party, organisation or group, and no one can guarantee their supporters a place there.
“Heaven is not owned by anybody but solely by God”, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan (pic).
He rubbished claims that supporting a particular organisation could guarantee its supporters a place in heaven.
“The department is resolute in enlightening the people and Muslims by addressing narratives that could divide society, including radical and extreme views propagated by certain groups and individuals,” he said.
Zulkifli said the government was seeking to promote peaceful coexistence by looking beyond politics to address social, economic and religious dimensions of Malaysian society.
“If we want to fly with high growth, we must be united. We must promote a peaceful coexistence and a harmonious society,” he said at a Concorde Club meeting at Wisma Bernama here with members of the media.
They had discussed the topic “Malaysia’s Islamic Identity: Balancing Faith, Diversity and Unity”.
Zulkifli said the department had initiated numerous programmes and campaigns under the theme “Islam is merciful to all mankind”, reflecting the religion’s inclusive and universal nature and respect for others.
He said this message was important in a diverse country such as Malaysia, where mutual respect and understanding among communities are essential.
He said the department would continue its efforts through various programmes to foster better understanding among Muslims and contribute towards a more harmonious society.
The Concorde Club is an informal gathering of senior editors and journalists from local and foreign media organisations to discuss current affairs and national issues with politicians and policymakers.
Besides media personnel from various news outlets, Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai was also present.
