Zainani Jusoh appointed new Accountant General

KUALA LUMPUR: The Deputy Accountant General (Corporate) of the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (AGD), Zainani Jusoh, has been appointed as the new Accountant General of Malaysia, effective today (Sept 3).

In a statement, AGD said the appointment was to replace the previous incumbent who retired on Sept 2, with the letter of appointment presented by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar in Putrajaya on Aug 27.

Zainani, who hails from Tanah Merah, Kelantan, holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She is a chartered accountant and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

"Zainani has more than 30 years of experience in the public service, having joined the civil service in 1994 as an accountant with the Micro Accounting System Task Force, AGD.

"Throughout her career, she has served in various departments and ministries, including the Malaysian Examinations Board, the Works Ministry (KKR), the Home Affairs Ministry (KDN), the Foreign Ministry (KLN), and the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT),” the statement said.

Zainani also played an important role in introducing the digitalisation of accounting systems in Malaysian embassies abroad, which were previously managed manually.

AGD stated that this major change enabled the financial management of all Malaysian embassies to be handled more efficiently, accurately, and promptly.

Before assuming the role of Deputy Accountant General (Corporate) in September 2023, she headed the AGD Consultancy Services Division and the Finance Ministry Accounts Division from 2019 to 2023.

In recognition of her service and contributions, Zainani was conferred the state award Bentara Setia Mahkota in conjunction with the birthday of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, in 2015.

"AGD would like to extend its deepest appreciation and thanks to the government for the trust placed in Zainani Jusoh to shoulder the duties and responsibilities as the Accountant General of Malaysia beginning Sept 3, 2025,” the statement said. - Bernama
