KUALA LUMPUR: Nasran Omar (pic), the Deputy Accountant General (Corporate) at the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia has been appointed as the new Accountant General, effective Friday (April 17).

The department, in a statement Thursday (April 16), said Nasran will replace Datuk Zainani Jusoh, who will retire on Friday.

It added that Nasran's appointment letter was presented by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar in Putrajaya on Wednesday (April 15).

Having graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a Master of Business Management (UTM), Nasran also holds professional memberships with The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (CA) and The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy - CPFA (United Kingdom).

It said that Nasran joined the public sector in 1994 as an assistant director in the Accounting Standards Section of the department, and has served at various levels at the state and Federal governments.

"Among them are the Melaka State Treasurer, the Home Ministry, the International Trade and Industry Ministry, the Transport Ministry and the Education Ministry," it added.

It said Nasran has expertise in handling public sector accounting and finance, including state account management, accounting operations, fund management and auditing, forensic accounting and the preparation of financial statements.

Prior to being appointed as Deputy Accountant General (Corporate), Nasran served as director of the JANM Central and Agency Operations Services Division, which manages government cash flow and prepares the Federal Government Financial Statements, from 2023 to 2025.

According to the department, Nasran is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and has extensive experience in developing government accounting systems.

"He has contributed his expertise in developing the Islamic Accountancy Standards for the Baitulmal, Zakat and Wakaf (PPIBZW) that was developed by JANM," it said, adding that PPIBZW is the first Islamic accountancy standard in the world, which places Malaysia as one of the leaders in the fields of public sector accountancy and finance at the global level. - Bernama
