Marine police seize homemade shotguns, subsidised goods in Pitas smuggling raid

KOTA KINABALU: Two homemade shotguns were seized by marine police when they foiled an attempt to smuggle out subsidised goods at a house in Sabah’s northern Pitas district.

The marine police team raided an unoccupied coastal village house in Kampung Pegasaon, used as a storage facility by the smugglers, during a midnight raid on Friday (Aug 29).

Sabah Marine Police Region 4 Commander Asst Comm Nazri Ibrahim said the raiding team recovered nine drums filled with petrol, 11 boxes of cooking oil and nine gas tanks believed to have been stored in the house.

"The team also found two homemade shotguns used for the illegal smuggling activities," he said, adding that there were occupants in the house at the time of the raid.

Nazri said the goods were kept at the house before being smuggled to the neighbouring country.

He said the case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 and the Firearms Act 1960.

He urged the public to provide information regarding smuggling activities in their areas.
