KUANTAN: The Road and Bridge Project from Kampung Labu via Kampung Batu Balak, Jerantut to Kampung Gemunchur and Kampung Mela, Kuala Lipis, will be officially opened on Sunday (Aug 31) in conjunction with the 68th National Day celebration.
The Rural and Regional Development Ministry, in a statement Saturday (Aug 30) announced that the project, which was implemented through the "design and build" method since March 20, 2018, was completed 17 days ahead of schedule, thus reflecting the government's commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure development for the well-being of the people.
"This high-impact project connects two major districts in Pahang, namely Jerantut and Lipis. This new infrastructure is expected to provide great benefits not only to the local population, but also boost the rural economy as a whole," according to the statement.
The Ministry also announced that among the main benefits of this project include shortening the travel distance between Kampung Mela and Kampung Labu from 60km to just 17km, and taking 15 minutes to travel.
"In addition, this new road is also a strategic tourism route connecting Kuala Tahan National Park with Cameron Highlands via Kuala Lipis. This facility is believed to provide a boost to the rural economy, especially in the tourism and agriculture sectors which are the main sources of income for the local community," the statement said.
In the same statement, the Ministry also expressed its appreciation to the Public Works Department (JKR), state Public Works Department and Lipis District Public Works Department for their dedication and high professionalism throughout the implementation of the project despite facing various challenges.
"The success of completing this project early proves the government's commitment in ensuring sustainable rural infrastructure development, in line with the aspirations of Madani Malaysia," the statement said. - Bernama
