KUALA LANGAT: Driving without a licence, a teenager took five friends out on an early morning joyride which ended tragically when their car crashed.

Four of them, including the 16-year-old driver, lost their lives in the accident along Jalan Sultan Suleiman Shah in Banting yesterday.

Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into a drain and crash into the wall.

He said three victims – the driver, front passenger and a rear passenger – died at the scene, while three others sustained serious injuries and were taken to Hospital Banting.

“One more victim died at the hospital while receiving treatment,” he said, adding that all the victims were aged between 16 and 19.

Supt Mohd Akmalrizal said the driver did not possess a valid licence.

“The cause of the accident is believed to be the driver dozing off at the wheel,” he said in a statement.

He added that all next of kin had lodged police reports, and their statements were recorded.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
