PSM claims its deputy chairman Arutchelvan arrested by police

PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan (pic) has been arrested by police, the party claims.

According to PSM secretary-general Sivaranjani Manickam, Arutchelvan was arrested on Wednesday (Aug 20) at 6pm at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

"This arrest is illegal and is an abuse of police powers," she said.

Efforts to contact the police for confirmation are ongoing.

Previously, the party had organised a memorandum handing over gathering outside Parliament.

In a statement on Aug 13, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said that the incident, which was caught on camera, showed that participants had created provocation and had collided with policemen tasked with maintaining security in the area.
