Sabah Minister denies daughter's involvement in Zara's death

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif has dismissed that his daughter is linked to the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

In a statement on Saturday (Aug 9), he said that his daughter does not attend the same school as Zara Qaruna in Papar, and the name being spread is not his daughter's.

"I don't have a child studying in that school, I do not have a daughter with the name mentioned (in the rumours)," he said.

On July 16, Zara Qairina was found unconscious outside the dormitory of her religious school at about 3am. She died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital the next day.

The family believes that she was a victim of bullying.

Mohd Arifin made the statement after an "Arifin", was named online as the person who allegedly bullied Zara Qairina

"Let the police investigate," he said.
