Sabah Electricity says staff not sent to homes without official notice, warns of impersonators

KOTA KINABALU: There have been no orders for Sabah Electricity personnel to go to any customer premises to get personal details and other important information without official notice, the utility company warns.

This warning was issued after Sabah Electricity said it had received enquiries from the public about random visits by company personnel for data gathering, maintenance or other purposes.

“We wish to stress that there have never been any such orders from our side for our employees to visit any customer premises without prior notice,” Sabah Electricity said in a statement Tuesday (Aug 11).

It warned the public to be wary if anyone claiming to be from the company asked to enter their premises unannounced.

“Inspections or maintenance from our personnel are only limited to the meters and electrical components outside the premises, not inside.

“Our employees are not instructed to enter any house or premises without prior verified notice,” it stressed.

The company said all Sabah Electricity staff were required to put on their uniforms with the Sabah Electricity logo, and to carry valid work passes. It added that customers had the right to ask for verification before any work is done.

Sabah Electricity personnel are also not allowed to collect cash or deposits directly from the customers.

Any form of payment has to be done via the official payment channels provided by Sabah Electricity while matters relating to accounts and electric services must be done via the office, or by contacting 15444, or 088-515000 or by downloading the mySE+ mobile application.

“Sabah Electricity takes this matter seriously and urges the public to always be on alert and to be wary of any individuals claiming to be from the company, or representing Sabah Electricity,” the company added.
