Wong Chen's quit decision let down not just PKR, but Subang constituents as well, says Ramanan

KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Chen’s decision to resign from his position as Subang MP has let down not just PKR but also his Subang constituents, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

The PKR vice-president said Wong’s decision to resign prematurely was “very disappointing”, as the voters had placed their trust in the latter by electing him twice.

“The people have voted so no matter what difficulties you have, you should wait.

“He has not only disappointed the party, he has also disappointed the rakyat,” Ramanan told reporters after a grant presentation ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Aug 11).

Ramanan also argued that Wong's electoral success was due to him being part of PKR, Pakatan Harapan, and the popularity of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“He won not because he is Wong Chen, but because of PH, PKR, and Anwar,” he added.

Despite his criticism, Ramanan also acknowledged Wong’s freedom and respected Wong’s decision.

“He is free to do whatever he wants to do and is free to join wherever he wants to join.

“He is also free to let the public down, if he feels he wants to let the public down,” Ramanan added.

On Monday (Aug 10), Wong announced that he had officially stepped down as Subang MP and that he had handed over his resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul earlier on Aug 5.

His decision follows political friction within PKR on the supposed blocking of constituent funding allocations via the MyKHAS portal for several MPs linked to the Bersama political movement.
