Couple killed in early morning blaze in Kota Belud


KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed in an early morning blaze in Kota Belud district.

The charred remains of the victims, a 47-year-old couple, were found in the bathroom area of the burnt-down house.

Kota Belud Fire Station chief Elgi Bakuk said they found the remains at around 4am.

He stated they received the distress call from Kg Sangkir at around 2.52am.

He reported the fire had engulfed most of the structure and they managed to bring the flames under control by 3.22am.

"When the victims were found, their bodies were retrieved and handed over to the police," Elgi said, adding that firemen wrapped up their operations at 4.55am.

No other hazardous elements or victims were detected.
