Welfare Dept seeking relatives of child found in Selangor

ALOR SETAR: The Social Welfare Department is looking for the next of kin of a boy found as a baby in a suitcase near Sri Kembangan in Serdang, Selangor, six years ago.

Kota Setar Social Welfare officer Natroh Ahmad said Mohd Naim Nizar was found in the suitcase in front of a house, swaddled in worn-out cloth with his umbilical cord still attached, on Feb 23, 2019.

She said the baby was initially cared for by a married couple in Sungai Petani, who then handed the boy over to another couple living in Kampung Selarong Lalang Kanan (in Alor Setar) in March 2020.

She said the department is looking for the child's next of kin to facilitate the process of registering his birth and obtaining his birth certificate, which is required for school registration.

"They are required to contact the Kota Setar District Social Welfare Office immediately at 04-7202370," she said. – Bernama
