Teen boy missing while fishing at Kuantan river


KUANTAN: A 15-year-old boy is feared to have drowned while fishing in the Kuantan River near Jalan Indera Mahkota 15/7, Bandar Indera Mahkota here on Tuesday (July 8).

Acting Kuantan police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said Mohamad Isyraf Danish Razmi was believed to have entered the river to retrieve a fishing line that had become stuck before disappearing from the view of his three friends.

He said the police received a report regarding the incident at 7.30pm and immediately activated a search and rescue operation with the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).

"A Scene Control Post (SCP) has been set up at the location, and the SAR operation is currently ongoing. The operation involves one officer and 10 personnel from the Kuantan district police headquarters, along with two officers and eight personnel from JBPM," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He also advised the public to avoid approaching the scene to ensure their safety and to allow rescue operations to proceed smoothly. - Bernama
