Man nabbed for robbing security guard in Kluang


KLUANG: Police arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly robbing and assaulting a security guard who was on duty.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 68-year-old victim lodged a police report about the incident, which occurred in front of a building at Jalan Panggung here around 3.30pm last Thursday (July 3).

"The suspect struck the victim on the head and body with an iron bar and a wooden stick.

"He then took the victim’s phone and a watch worth RM300, which had been placed on a table,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 7).

He said the security guard sustained swelling to his head, body and hands due to the assault.

ACP Bahrin added that the suspect was arrested at Jalan Jelutong on Saturday (July 5).

“A background check revealed that the suspect has three prior criminal records and one drug-related offence.

"The suspect has been remanded for five days to assist in investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code," he said.

He added that the case has been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, and the suspect is expected to be charged in court on Wednesday (July 9).
