Couple nabbed for suspected abuse following girl's death

SUNGAI BULOH: A couple was arrested after the alleged fatal abuse of their stepchild.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said that police were notified of the death by a medical officer of the Sungai Buloh hospital.

“In her report, she said that on July 3, a 2-year-old patient was received in an unconscious state. The doctor on duty tried to resuscitate the girl, but there had been no response before she was pronounced dead.

“Checks on the body showed bruises, lumps and injuries all over the body as well as dried blood in the mouth and nose areas. The complainant was then informed that the girl had been brought to the hospital by her foster parents,” he said in a statement on Friday (July 4).

The couple - a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman - were arrested.

“Checks showed no prior criminal records. Both suspects will be remanded on Saturday (July 5) at the Shah Alam Court,” he said.
