Kulai council identifies 132 illegal factories in Seelong area

KULAI: The Kulai Municipal Council has identified 132 illegal factories operating within Seelong areas, says its president Mohd Hafiz Aliman.

He said an ongoing census of these factories had begun on May 1, 2025 and was expected to be completed by Sep 1 this year.

“Once done, the data collected will give us a clearer picture on how to go about regularising these illegal factories and making them legitimate,’’ he told reporters after the council’s meeting on Tuesday (July 1).

Mohd Hafiz said that Seelong was chosen due to the high number of factories in the area.

“They have been there long before Seelong came under us, under the demarcation of the local authority back in 2016,’’ he said, adding that Seelong was previously under the jurisdiction of the then Johor Baru Central Municipal Council.

Mohd Hafiz said his council would hold meetings with the relevant agencies and departments to implement the processes for legalising the factories.

He stated that the council also discovered some factories failed to comply with the standard guidelines.

Mohd Hafiz said Seelong would serve as a benchmark for regularising illegal factories in the Kulai district.
