Two-year-old girl, mother found decomposing in Penang apartment


GEORGE TOWN: The decomposed bodies of a woman and her toddler daughter were found at an apartment unit in Jalan Bukit Gambir on Monday (June 30).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad police received information from the public at 4.41pm about a foul smell, suspected to be the scent of a decomposing body, coming from the apartment unit.

"A team discovered the bodies in the master bedroom after forcing their way into the apartment," he said in a statement on Monday.

He said identification documents found at the scene indicated that the deceased were aged 40 and 2 years old respectively, and were believed to be mother and daughter.

ACP Abdul Rozak said forensic specialists from Penang Hospital and the state police headquarters forensic investigation team were summoned to assist in the investigation at the scene.

He said the bodies have been sent to Penang Hospital Forensic Department for post-mortem.

The case has been classified as Sudden Death pending post-mortem results.
