BANGI: The investigation into the alleged misuse of sukuk funds in a Klang Valley highway project is expected to be completed within a month or two, according to Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner stated that the time frame is necessary to allow the investigation team to gather complete information.
"We need to analyse several pertinent documents, including financial statements. So far, we have already recorded the statements of 53 witnesses to assist with the investigation," he said at a press conference after attending the second MACC Law Enforcement Accredited Programme Convocation on Thursday (June 12).
Azam mentioned that more witnesses will be called to assist with the investigation.
"The statement recording of a Tan Sri will resume today," he added.
On Tuesday (June 11), the Tan Sri's statement was recorded over six hours, from 9am to 3.07pm.
Azam highlighted that the highway concessionaire is a key witness in the investigation.
Earlier reports indicated that 45 individuals who had given statements were recalled to provide further information.
On June 3, the MACC disclosed it had seized assets worth around RM143mil in the probe, which focuses on the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project.
Investigators are also tracing luxury vehicles and properties linked to the Tan Sri, including assets in London and Switzerland.
