MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for eight states


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected in several regions across Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 6pm on Sunday (June 8).

Perlis and Kedah are on alert for severe weather.

In Perak, Larut, Matang, Selama and Hulu Perak are affected.

Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Kerai in Kelantan have been included in the warning.

In Terengganu, Besut was included as well as Pekan and Rompin in Pahang.

The areas of Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi were also included in the warning.

Finally, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) also issued a storm warning for Telupid and Sandakan in Sabah.

This warning is issued by MetMalaysia when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
