SJK (T) Lorong Java in Seremban, Negri Sembilan has started a fundraising campaign to build a million-ringgit hall and canteen, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The school was founded 128 years ago and is the largest Tamil school in the state with more than 800 students.

The school headmaster, board, parent-teacher association and the former students’ associations worked together to organise a fundraising dinner.

The event was held at the Regent Hall in Seremban and attended by state exco member and Nilai assemblyman J. Arul Kumar.

Transport Minister and Seremban MP Anthony Loke also attended the event and donated RM50,000 on behalf of the ministry and a further RM50,000 on behalf of the state government.

Half of the cost of the two-storey building will be borne by the Jega Devan Nadchathiram family’s trust, Arul Kumar said.

The effort has also received serious pledges from businesses and leaders.
